JhuleLal
Jhulelal is the patron Avtar of Sindh and Sindhis. Sindh was under the rule of a Cruel Muslim ruler named ‘Murkh’ in 950 A.D. and Kafan Kot ( Thatta ) was the capital of Sindh. Fanatic Maulvis instigated the Badshah to issue a proclamation for th forcible conversion of Hindus to Islam. Numerous Hindus were forcibly converted and many Hindus sacrificed their life resisting the attempt at forcible conversion.
Hindus of Sindh were helpless in the face of tyranny. One day Sindhi Hindus gathered on the banks of the Sindhu river delta near Thatta. For three days they prayed to God seeking divine help from Islamic persecution. The Supreme Lord responded in an ethereal voice ( Akashwani ) and communicated to the worshippers that after SEVEN days Lord Vishnu shall emerge as Varuna in Human Form and protect the Hindu Sindhis.
As prophesized the Divine savior arrived at the appointed hour, on Friday evening of New moon of the Month of Chaitra ( April ) in the year 1007 A.D. and was born in the family of a Rajput Thakur Rattan Rai Lohana and mother devki, in the village of Khanpur ( Nasarpur ) Sindh and was chistened ‘Uday Chandra’ by the family Brahmin. Out of love and affection he was called ‘Uderolal’. Swinging the cradle with the child lying therein the ladies sang melodious lullabys with the word ‘Jhulelal’ . Thereafter the word Jhulelal became a household world and a customary slogan of Hindu Sindhis for greeting each other.
Sindhis thereafter became staunch worshippers of Jhulelal. Jhulelal was ordered to be brought in handcuffs by the Badshah Murkh but disappeared mysteriously and miraculously got the Royal Palace flooded with gushing water and scorching fire.
Later the Badshah witnessed Lord Varuna coming out of glittering waters mounted on a blud horse accompanied by a huge army. This scared the Badshah who alongwith his ministers and maulvis fell down with folded hands at the feet of Sri. Amar Lal Sain and prayed to be saved. The Lord Pardoned them and they all became fatithful disciples of Lord Varuna.
Uderolal settled in a village known as Jhijhan and with his blessings a Lal Sain Mandir was constructed there and a well known as Balambho Sahib was dug in its premises whose water was known to have curative and medicinal properties. Many followers of Islam ( Muslims ) became his worshippers and used to address Lord Varuna as Khwaja Khizir Zindahpir and lit a Akhand Jyot ( Perpetual Fire ) at a spot where Varuna ie. Darya Shah seated on a Golden Pala ( type of Fish ) saved the cargo boat of Fishermen near Sukkur.
On the Bright 14th Day of the month of Bhadaon in the year 1020 A.D. at the tender age of 13 our beloved savior merged into the Jal Jyoti. From that day we Sindhis consider it our moral obligation to commemorate that day as Cheti Chand through out the world.
It is the most impressive and colorful festival of Sindhis when even the skies reverbrate with the slogan ‘Aayo Lal Jhulelal !’
